Worst Ideas for Home Renovation

Doing some home renovations can either help increase your house’s market value or damage it for good. That’s why you need to be very cautious when doing home renovations, especially if you are doing it on your own. Some have tried it successfully while others have failed. According to surveys, most renovations didn’t actually return the cost of investment. Here are some of the worst ideas that you can do when renovating your homes.

Home Offices Are Plain

According to real estate agents located in Alabama, adding a home office in your house doesn’t really add any value to it. It’s completely different from adding a home theater or just updating the kitchen. Most people would mostly prefer to keep their work and personal life separated. Although a few people might see this as a great feature, most people don’t really appreciate home offices that much.

If you’re really considering on adding an extra room, think of something that will add enjoyment to your house. You have to be creative when adding an extra space to your house.

Adding Over-the-Top Sound Systems

Although these may be quite attractive to some potential home buyers, not all can appreciate an extravagant home theatre or even expensive built- in sound system. It may take a while before you can sell the house at the exact same price of your renovation costs.

Extravagant Bath Fixtures

It would be best for you not to get bath fixtures that are too flashy or too colorful. Some people might not have the same taste as yours, so there’s a chance that the buyer will just renovate your bath fixtures again after they purchased it.

Vinyl Tile Flooring or Cheap Laminate

Be careful when using laminate. Some may look attractive but some may just look cheap. Try to stay way from the peel-and-stick type of vinyl tiles because they usually get peeled off in a few years. Try to choose hardwood, cork, stone, or bamboo instead.

Swimming Pool

Although swimming pool can be a selling feature, the costs that you paid to build a pool won’t really be added to your house’s market value. According to brokers from Birmingham, adding a swimming pool  may entice buyers to purchase your house but it doesn’t really have any effect on its price.

Unusual Walls and Rooms

We understand that the house is a reflection of its owner. But if you see your house as an investment, then you might just want to hold yourself back in designing the house that much. Odd- looking walls or rooms doesn’t really add to its value. Buyers might only see this as an additional renovation expense in the future.
