Top Things That You Should Never Forget When Buying a Property

Looking for a house is a laborious task. Some would sometimes even get tired of it that they wouldn’t really bother checking the house thoroughly before closing the deal, which can sometimes lead to huge problems. Remember that you’re purchasing a home where you’ll be staying at for many years. Maybe spending a little bit more than an hour or two would be enough to at least get a view of how it would be like living in that house. Here are just some of the things that you should always check when viewing a property.

  1. Check if there’s damp. Try to check each room if there’s anything that smells like mold, a flaky plaster perhaps, or any watermark in the walls or ceilings. This can be a huge problem in the future, so be very wary of it. Check rooms that have just been newly repainted. There’s a chance that they may be covering any damp in those areas.
  2. See if the house’s structure is well- constructed. See if the house looks and feels solid enough. You may try to look out for big cracks, or even some hairline cracks. Check where the extensions join, the terrace walls, and even the bay windows. It would be better if you get a certified surveyor to take a better look at those major cracks if in case you happen to see one.
  3. Check how much storage space it has. Storage space is important, especially if you’re planning to start a family. See if the storage space is enough for all your things like your vacuum cleaner, towels, and other boxes for your junk. If there’s not enough storage, see if there’s still space build a cupboard or even shelves. Most newly built houses in cities like Dallas have a very limited floor area, so a house that has enough storage space is hard to come by.
  4. See where the house is facing. Most people don’t really do this, but knowing where your house is facing is very much important. See if the house faces the sun rise or not. You might not get enough sunlight to brighten up your room. It’s also very important for people who are into planting. Choosing the wrong side of the house can lead your plants to die. So you might want to use a compass whenever you’re checking a house, especially in states like Texas.

Ask how old the roof is. Replacing roofs are probably one of the expensive things to do when owning a house. Not only because of the material, but also because of its labor. So try to check how old the roof is. Most new roofs only last for 15 to 20 years. So make sure to ask how old the roof is so that you’re aware of any problems in the future
