Things like poor ventilation, bad taste in landscaping, and even just the leaky pipes and cracked walls can affect the value of anyone’s home. But according to experts, homicide or any death that are not caused by natural occurrences can decrease any Alabama real estate’s value by as low as 25%.
Houses that has a history of death make some buyers feel uneasy about the place and makes them wonder how the previous owner died. These houses are associated by some with the supernatural or ghosts. This may have been influenced by the entertainment industry. Most films usually depict houses with such history as somewhat related to the unknown.
This may be true. But some people who have a unique taste most often find these houses amusing. Some of the owners would convert their houses into a museum and retain its original look just to earn for a living. Some even turn it into a hotel just to let people feel and see what it feels like to live in a place haunted by its dark past.
One of the real estates that got affected by its history is Mr. Adam Lanza’s house. He is the gunman who killed several first- graders and a few adults in an elementary school back on December 14, 2012. He is also accused of murdering his mother, Mrs. Nancy Lanza, on the same day that he did the crime. Their house ended up being abandoned and was demolished later on.
The Federal Law clearly states that all necessary disclosure has to be done when selling the house including its history. This is especially difficult in every state, including Alabama, which has houses that have a certain past. What real estate brokers would usually do is focus on its great attributes rather than the untimely death that happened to the property. Certain factors like the property’s nice location, its wide and open spaces, and even the number of its room can be used to the broker’s advantage. However, some buyers still end up selling the house again after a few years.
Finding buyers for properties like this can be challenging. Most brokers would just sell it for no additional cost just to have it taken out from their list. However, according to some agents from Birmingham, changing its image can help make the property attractive to potential buyers. Changing the paint or its landscaping can make it look different. You may even change the address to somehow erase its past. What’s important is that you give the house a completely new look. It would make the new homeowner feel much like at home, instead of feeling like their living in a dead person’s house.
