One of the biggest misconceptions in today’s mortgage market is that there is a loan for first-time homebuyers. While some cities and towns may have a grant program for FTHBs, there is not a product specifically designed for them. However, the USDA Loan is one of the more popular choices for FHTBs because it typically fits their needs. Borrowers often find that features of the USDA Loan are best suited for them when buying their first home. The no required down payment is probably the most popular feature. Another great point for FTHBs is the low mortgage insurance. With a factor of .50 it is significantly below the .85 of the FHA loan. Another strong point is the flexibility it allows with credit.
