Maintaining Your Salt Lake City Home

Home maintenance is important to make sure that you keep your house safe and make it resilient enough to withstand the test of time. That’s why it’s good idea to save a bit of some money from your monthly income for repair and maintenance. According to studies, homeowners usually spend at least 1 percent to 3 percent of your home’s value on repair and maintenance every year. That’s why it’s important that you allot a portion of your money for it.

Keeping a checklist would help you keep your house at its best, keep your utilities down and may even prevent any expensive repairs in the future.

  • You need to check if the foundation has cracks or moisture. These damages can expand and may cost further damage in the future.
  • Inspect your roofs for any loose shingles or tiles. See if there are any signs of leaks around the chimneys, skylights and vents. Make sure that there aren’t any debris or dead leaves to prevent it from clogging.
  • Clean out the downspouts and gutters regularly. Remove and blockages or dead leaves.
  • Make sure to clean out the chimney every once in a while to make sure that there aren’t any buildup of flammable substances trapped in your chimney,
  • Regularly drain the water heater until it’s already clear of any sediments and then refill it with clean water. Doing so will extend your water heater’s life.
  • You should also vacuum the lint from the surrounding areas and the ducts of your clothes dryer.  This will prevent any small debris or piece of cloth from clogging your clothes dryer.
  • Clean the fan blades and the grills of your exhaust fan. This will make your exhaust fan work even better.
  • You can clean your garbage disposal by flushing it with hot water and baking soda.
  • You should also learn how to clean and lubricate the hinges and other moving parts of your doors and windows. Make sure that all metal hardware are polished.
  • You maintain and clean your garage doors hinges, tracks and rollers.
  • Make sure you clean your carpets by shampooing it and waxing the floor.
  • You might also want to inspect grout and caulking around tubs, sinks and showers to make sure that there aren’t any leaks. You may reapply more if deemed necessary,
  • Check if your fire extinguishers are still recharge. Make sure that it hasn’t expired yet.
  • You should also test the batteries of your carbon monoxide detectors and the smoke alarms. You may also have the batteries replaced if necessary.

These are just some of the things that you might want to consider when maintaining your house. You can always ask some home experts in Salt Lake City to know more about house maintenance.
